Vaccinations
Childhood Immunisation Schedule
Immunisations are the most important public health intervention to prevent the blowout of many diseases that cause hospitalisation in Australia today.
The government established the National Immunisation Program to progress the overall health of the population and keep significant illnesses in check. The variety of vaccinations is carefully planned into a timetable throughout a child’s life and is called the ‘National Immunisation Program Schedule’.
Vitalia Healthcare stocks all scheduled vaccines. We provide immunisation free-of-charge because of the government.
Immunising children can be challenging, but skilled, registered nurses are present whenever we are open.
Please note, a vaccine should not be given to the patient if they are sick. If the patient is sick, please postpone having the vaccine until they are better.
It is practice policy that after your vaccine is administered, you wait for approximately 15 minutes to ensure you don’t have any adverse reactions to the vaccine.
Sometimes, the site of the vaccination may hurt a bit and may show localized redness and soreness. This is quite normal, but if you have any concerns, please talk to our friendly staff before leaving.
COVID-19 Vaccinations
Flu Vaccinations
The influenza virus, or ‘the flu’ is a serious breathing virus that can sometimes can be lethal in a minority of cases.
We develop flu vaccines yearly to give patients provisional immunity to expected strains of the influenza virus likely to appear in winter. We usually make it available to the public around autumn (April) and vaccines are always available at Vitalia Healthcare.
The government, as part of their health strategy, provides free flu vaccines to patients that are vulnerable and satisfy one of the following conditions:
- Chronic conditions (e.g. asthma, diabetes, kidney disease, heart disease, immunodeficiency etc.)
- Over 65 years old
- Pregnant women
See our page about Chronic Disease Management for more info.
If you don’t fall into one of the above categories, we provide the private flu vaccine (covering the same strains as the government Fluvax’s) at a discounted fee of $10; payable on the day of your consultation.

The flu vaccination only lasts a few months, so it is sometimes necessary to have a repeat flu shot if you have had a flu shot too early.
Travel Vaccinations
We cover all basic travel vaccines
You will require an appointment with your doctor to identify vaccinations needed. Many private health insurance policies will offer a refund on the cost of travel vaccines, so please check your health insurance documentation to see if this applies.
We provide the following links for those in Perth and WA who have questions about COVID-19 vaccinations.
