Ear Wax Removal
For people experiencing ear pain, discomfort or tinnitus
Do you suffer from blocked ears?
Blocked ears can make you feel irritated and cause issues with hearing. A common cause of this is hard ear wax, which can easily become embedded in the ear, causing pain, balance upset and whistling hearing aids.
Ear wax production is an everyday process the body goes through. From time to time, the ears’ self-cleaning mechanism causes ear wax buildup. When it is not functioning correctly, it is one of the most common ear related conditions.
Historically, patients have had excessive ear wax or embedded ear wax removed using water syringing. While this is still common practice, doctors are cautious. Ear wax removal by syringing can’t be done if a patient has a perforated eardrum – also it can be uncomfortable and messy.
There is an alternative to using ear syringing…

The microsuction process
There are three aspects to ear wax removal with microsuction:
- Our trained GP uses A binocular device and suction to clean your ear canal and remove ear wax. This is the same method used by ENT specialist doctors. You sit in a chair and the GP will place gently a small metal funnel in your ear canal to enhance the view.
- The GP will look through a binocular device fitted with a bright light to see inside your ear canal. We may use ear suction at this stage to remove ear wax or objects from the ear canal. In cases of infection, cleaning the ear canal can help heal your ear. At all times, the GP can see exactly what she is doing.
- The Doctor does ear suction using a small sucker attached to a low-pressure suction machine. If needed, the GP may also use fine instruments like tiny forceps or a scoop to remove wax. You may experience some dizziness for a few seconds. If this occurs, please inform the GP and they will stop the suction to allow the dizziness to subside.
